July 08 - July 14 is the 28th week of 2024. This week, we enter the Solar Term of Minor Heat (July 07 - July 21). Week 23: “Praying Mantises Hatch”
June 03 - June 09 is the 23rd week of 2024. This week, we have the Solar Term of Grain Buds (May 20 - June 04) and Grain in Ear (June 05 - June 20). The micro-seasons in this week are ““Wheat Ripens and is Harvested” (May 31 - June 05) and “Praying Mantises Hatch” (June 06 -June 10). Week 21: Silkworms and A Flower Moon
The 21st week of 2024 brings the Solar Term of Grain Buds and the micro-season of silkworms feasting on mulberry leaves. Basho, Issa, Buson, Reichhold, and Kerouac wrote haikus for this week.
Micro-Season: “Hibernating Creatures Close Their Doors” (2023)
September 28 - October 02 is the micro-season of “Hibernating Creatures Close Their Doors”. This is the second micro-season of the mini-season of Autumn Equinox. To celebrate this season, we will learn about hibernation and other similar winter survival strategies. Then we will read seasonal haiku by Basho, Issa, and Buson
Micro-Season: “The Crow-dipper Sprouts” (2023)
On July 01 we will enter the micro-season of “The Crow-dipper Sprouts”. This is the third micro-season of the season Summer Solstice. To celebrate this season, we will learn about plants in the Araceae family and then read haiku by Basho, Shiki, Buson, Issa, and Reichhold.
Micro-Season: “The Plums Turn Yellow” (2023)
We have entered the micro-season of “The Plums Turn Yellow”. To celebrate this season we will learn about the Japanese Flowering Plum (Prunus mume) and then read haiku by Basho, Issa, Jane Reichhold, and Jack Kerouac.
Micro-Season: “The Praying Mantis Hatches” (2023)
We have entered the micro-season of “The Praying Mantis Hatches”. This is the first micro-season of the season of Grain in Ear. To celebrate this season we will learn about the praying mantis and then read haiku by Basho, Issa, Takarai Kikaku, Kerouac, and others.

We have entered the micro-season of “The Time for Wheat.” This is the third micro-season of the mini-season of Grain Full. To celebrate this season we will learn about the history of wheat and read haiku by Basho, Issa, Reichhold, and Kerouac.

We have entered the micro-season of “The Safflower Blossoms.” To celebrate this season we will learn about the safflower and read haiku by Basho, Issa, Buson, Matsunaga Teitoku, and Yagi Shokyu-ni.

We have entered the micro-season of “The Sparrow Builds Her Nest ” This is the first micro-season of the mini-season of Spring Equinox. To celebrate this season, we will learn about sparrows and read seasonal haiku by Basho, Issa, Buson, and Shiki.

We have entered the micro-season of “Leaf insects turn into Butterflies”. This is the third micro-season of the mini-season of Awakening of Insects. To celebrate this season, we will learn about the life cycle of butterflies and read haiku by Basho, Buson, and Issa.
