Week 39: “Thunder Ceases”

September 23 -  September 29 is the 39th week of 2024.  This week, we have shifted into autumn in both the meteorological and astronomical seasons.  We also wrap up the Solar Term of White Dew (Sep 08 - Sept 21) and enter the micro-seasons of “Thunder Ceases” (Sep 23 - Sep 27). Basho, Issa, Buson, and Reichhold wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 36: “End of Heat”

September 02 -  September 08 is the 36th week of 2024.  This week we enter into the meteorological season of fall, which runs from September to November, and remain in astronomical summer until the autumnal equinox on Sept 22, 2024.  During this week we also wrap up the Solar Term of End of Heat (Aug 23 - Sept 07) and enter the micro-season of “Rice Ripens” (Sep 02- Sep 07). Basho, Issa, Buson, and Reichhold wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 24: “Rotten Grass Becomes Fireflies”

June 10 - June 16 is the 24th week of 2024.  This week, we have the Solar Term of Grain in Ear (June 05 - June 20), and the micro-season of “Rotten Grass Becomes Fireflies” (June 11 - June 15). Basho, Issa, Buson, and Reichhold wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 07: “Fish Rise From The Ice”

February 12 to February 18 is the seventh week of 2024 in the Gregorian calendar.  During this week, we complete the Solar Term of the Beginning of Spring (Feb 04 - Feb 18), while the micro-seasons for this week are “Bush warblers start singing in the mountains” (Feb 9 - Feb 13) and “Fish Emerge From The Ice” (Feb 14 - Feb 18). The haiku selected for this week are written by Basho, Issa, Reichhold, Sogi, Kerouac, and Kenko.
