Spring Haiku – May 2025

In early May, spring awakens with returning birds and blossoming trees. The 72-season calendar highlights nature's transitions, encouraging mindfulness through haiku. Week 17: “Last Frost”

April 22 to April 28 is the 17th week of 2024.  This week, we are in the Solar Term of Grain Rain (Apr 20 -May 04). The micro-seasons for this week are “First Reeds Sprout” (Apr 20 - Apr 24) and “Last Frost, Rice Seedlings Grow” (Apr 25 - Apr 29). Basho, Issa, Buson, Reichhold, Rosenstock, and Zaishiki wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 13: “First Cherry Blossoms”

March 25 to March 31 is the thirteenth week of 2024.  This week, we remain in the Solar Term of Spring Equinox (Mar 20- Apr 3) and have the micro-seasons of “First Cherry Blossoms” (Mar 26-Mar 30). Basho, Issa, Buson, Soin, and Reichhold wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 12: “Spring Equinox”

March 18 to March 24 is the twelfth week of 2024.  This week, we enter the Solar Term of Spring Equinox (Mar 20- Apr 3) and have the micro-seasons of “Caterpillars Become Butterflies” (Mar 16 - Mar 19) and “Sparrows Start to Nest”(Mar 20 - Mar 24). Basho, Issa, Buson, Sodo, Reichhold, and Kerouac wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 11: “First Peach Blossoms”

March 11 to March 17 is the eleventh week of 2024.  This week, we are in the Solar Term of Awakening of Insects (Mar 05 - Mar 19), the micro-seasons of “First Peach Blossoms” (Mar 11- Mar 15), and the micro-season of “Caterpillars Become Butterflies” (Mar 16 - Mar 20). Basho, Buson, Issa, Reichhold, Kerouac, and Li Po wrote the poems selected for this week.

Week 08: “Rain Water”

February 19  to February 25 is the eighth week of 2024 in the Gregorian calendar.  During this week, we begin the Solar Term of Rain Water (Feb 19 - Mar 04). The micro-seasons for this week are “Rain Moistens the Soil” (Feb 19 - Feb 23) and “Mist Starts to Linger” (Feb 24 - Feb 28). The poems selected for this week are written by Basho, Issa, Reichhold, and Teasdale.
